Summary / Read source ↗

- A hard budget limit function is necessary that can set a monthly budget cap and automatically stop services or APIs when usage exceeds the limit. - When automation services can be easily created using coding agents, the usage of paid APIs or cloud services may surge rapidly, so soft limits that only warn about excess costs are insufficient. - Many individuals and companies prefer service errors over unexpected high charges when exceeding budget limits, so a hard budget limit set as the default is needed. - Amazon AWS announced the monthly budget limit setting function in 2026 year September, and Google Cloud also launched the service-specific budget cap setting feature in July.

Editorial opinion startupxo

It seems that the hard budget limit feature, which automatically stops services when real-time cost overruns occur, is gradually being introduced in cloud services recently. Both AWS and Google Cloud released this feature a few months ago, but it remains a challenge since it is not yet widely adopted. When using this feature, it's important to carefully consider how to balance unexpected service interruptions with actual cost management.
