- WeChat is a decentralized messenger app that allows encrypted messages to be exchanged with nearby devices via a Bluetooth mesh network without an internet connection. - The Indian government, based on Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, ordered Apple to remove WeChat from the Indian Apple App Store. - Downloads of WeChat within India have also been blocked on the Google Play Store, and accessing the WeChat website is currently impossible among Indian internet service providers. - The Indian government implemented the ban because WeChat complicates communication interception and user tracking and can operate even during internet shutdowns.

Editorial opinion startupxo

It's a Bluetooth mesh method for exchanging messages between nearby devices without the internet, and it was blocked based on the government's difficulty in monitoring communications. I'm curious about the detailed procedures of how such a block is actually implemented in India. Especially since both app and website access were blocked uniformly, it stands out that there is a lack of related legal grounds or publicly disclosed blocked content, which reduces transparency.
