Summary / Read source ↗

- Since macOS 27, the single toggle setting to disable Apple AI features has been removed, requiring users to disable multiple individual settings. - An open-source command-line tool called RemoveMacAI turns off Apple AI features like Siri, Writing Tool, Generative AI, Image Playground, ChatGPT extensions, deletes about 12GB of associated AI models, and blocks their redownload. - This tool preserves settings even after macOS updates, and the 'removemacai revert' command can re-enable AI features and download the models again. - According to the developer, the AI models are about 12GB in size, but some users report seeing over 35GB in storage; RemoveMacAI also allows checking the size of each AI model individually.

RemoveMacAI is useful because it can delete accumulated AI model data all at once and disable AI features even after the official toggle disappeared in macOS 27. I'm especially curious about how it accurately measures storage usage, which can be tens of gigabytes, and how users can manage it. As for system stability and compatibility with future macOS updates, those are things to keep an eye on.
