Anthropic showcased its vision for agentic coding at the “Code with Claude” event, while OpenAI secured a Leader position in Gartner’s enterprise coding agent evaluation, signaling growing dominance in the corporate segment.

The main players currently competing in the space include Claude Code (Anthropic), GitHub Copilot (Microsoft), Cursor, Windsurf, Devin (Cognition), and Amazon Q. Each product is differentiating across dimensions such as IDE integration, multi-file editing, and autonomous execution capabilities.

The most significant paradigm shift is the move from autocomplete to agentic loops. While earlier tools like GitHub Copilot assisted developers by predicting the next line of code, the new generation of agents plans tasks, writes code across multiple files, and runs tests autonomously.
