Summary / Read source ↗

- A single controller jointly controls drive axes that move on fast and slow cycles. The source gives an example of using 0.5ms high-speed communication and 2ms medium-speed communication together, with 2 EtherCAT communication ports and dual-core distributed computation. - The main unit includes, as standard, a high-speed counter input of up to 4MHz and pulse and PWM outputs. The source explains that synchronous control based on external encoder signals can be done with the main unit alone, without expansion units. Reduced control panel space and component costs are effects the company states. - Programming uses CODESYS-based software GM Programmer Pro, which follows the international standard IEC 61131-3, and provides 6 programming languages, electronic cam functions, and dedicated libraries. The claim that it greatly reduces design and on-site preparation effort is the manufacturer's claim.

Before the part about using the dedicated library together with IEC 61131-3 language, what catches my eye first is the setup where external encoder signals go straight into the unit's high-speed counter. It's good to hear you don't need to buy a separate expansion unit, but since the article has no prices or per-model spec tables, it's hard to judge from the text alone how much parts costs will actually drop. I also think it's worth checking how complicated communication setup gets when 0.5ms and 2ms cycles are combined on one unit. I'm curious whether it works in the field to decide in advance which cycle the conveyor axis goes on.
