- According to a regulatory filing Apple submitted to the European Commission, Apple plans to make job offers to Huxe AI employees and obtain a non-exclusive license to Huxe's intellectual property. - The source calls this a reverse acquihire deal and estimates that, because Apple is not buying the whole company, it will face less antitrust review. This is the source's own explanation and is hard to treat as a confirmed fact. - Huxe is a company founded by the developers who built the AI-generated podcast feature of NotebookLM. According to the source, Huxe announced it will shut down on May 21, warning that the app will be deleted, service will stop, and user data will be deleted. - The source says it did not disclose who received job offers, whether they accepted, or Apple's specific plans. It also notes that one day before Huxe's shutdown announcement, Spotify unveiled an AI podcast generation feature.

The fact that Apple is hiring Huxe staff and licensing its technology has been confirmed by regulatory filings, but the source leaves out who was hired and Apple's plans, so it seems safer to read the idea that a similar feature will be added to the Podcasts app as the article's speculation. What catches my eye is the part saying that when the service shuts down, the app will be deleted and user data erased. If you entrusted your personalization history to it, I'm curious whether you've checked how that deletion was actually carried out.
