Summary / Read source ↗

- The concept puts a projector and camera inside a light-bulb-shaped device that fits into a ceiling light socket or a portable lamp base. The author explains that it shows information such as recipes, timers, and maps on nearby surfaces instead of a small screen. - The author shows, in a prototype video, controlling smart home devices by voice commands or by pointing at them, and checking off a family to-do list by tapping it with a hand. The author states that the video was shot without editing or AI generation. - The author believes a consumer product is not yet technically possible but is not far off. As privacy measures, the author proposes processing data on the device, a camera that turns on only when the user switches it on and has a fixed indicator light, and a physical cover.

Have you run into something like this? Tell us in a line or two what you did. You do not need to know the product.

If it's the kind that fits into a ceiling socket, installation conditions will probably be the first hurdle for renters or people who move often. The original proposal says the camera only operates when the user turns it on and that it should have a fixed indicator light, but there is no way to confirm that a real product actually keeps that promise. If you were to hang one in your living room, I'm curious which situation would bother you first.
