Running a meaningful A/B test on an e-commerce store typically takes two to four weeks. You need enough traffic to reach statistical significance, and during that window some portion of your real customers is exposed to an unvalidated variant. For small stores with limited traffic, a single test can stretch to months.
SimGym inverts this constraint. Instead of routing real users, it deploys LLM-powered synthetic buyer agents operating inside a live browser to simulate A/B experiments. The key innovation is traffic-grounded profiling: the system extracts buyer personas and behavioral archetypes from existing purchase logs, then populates agent cohorts that mirror the actual customer distribution. Validated across 50 real storefronts, SimGym achieves strong directional alignment with observed human behavior and collapses experiment cycles from weeks to under an hour.
The deeper question for e-commerce founders is: what changes when A/B testing costs nothing?
Today, A/B tests are rationed for hypotheses that seem important enough to justify the wait. Remove that cost and every design decision (button copy, CTA placement, image layout, checkout flow) becomes testable before a single real user sees it. Personalization changes too: you can validate separate interfaces for separate personas independently, without splitting a thin traffic pool. Early-stage startups gain an iteration velocity advantage that historically only scaled platforms with massive traffic could afford.
Limitations remain. Synthetic agents cannot fully replicate the emotional texture of real purchasing (brand trust, impulse dynamics, and context-specific friction are hard to model. A lightweight real-traffic validation before final launch is still prudent.
