Summary / Read source ↗

- The company describes Persona as a personal AI assistant that handles everyday tasks such as ordering food, taking notes, booking travel, and replying to emails. The founder explained that the 179 dollar wristband launching alongside it is activated by pressing a button or lightly moving the wrist, and that it does not work by always listening and recording. - It is currently a free beta used over iMessage, and the founder says there are thousands of beta users. The wristband is scheduled to launch in December, and the app is still in preparation. The claim that wristband pre-order sales reached the five-digit range is the founder's claim. - On privacy, the company said the AI model runs in the cloud rather than on the device, and user data is sent there. It described encryption during transmission and storage and a data deletion feature, and it promised not to sell data to advertisers or data brokers, but the source contains no independent verification. - The revenue model relies on advertising, so ad products appear during shopping searches. The company said recommendations are not biased because the agent does not know which products are ads. Purchases are processed after user approval through external payment services such as Stripe Link.

The claim that the agent recommends ad products without knowing they are ads comes from the founder, so I'd like to check it myself with a few shopping searches. For products with lots to compare, like chairs or appliances, I think I could gauge whether ad results have been mixed in. It's also worth noting that Band is scheduled to launch in December, so for now you can only try it through the iMessage beta.
