- USA Today Co. and its affiliated local newspapers sued OpenAI, saying it used hundreds of thousands of articles to train AI models without permission, according to the source. - The plaintiffs said they seek damages of $250 million or more. This is the plaintiffs' claim, not a court ruling. - The source notes that several other parties, including The New York Times, The Intercept, Ziff Davis, Britannica, and The Seattle Times, are already suing OpenAI. - The source says OpenAI had not responded to The Verge's request for comment at the time the source was written.

The passage stating that the amount USA Today has sued for alongside regional newspapers is at least $250 million caught my eye. However, since this is the plaintiffs' claim, it is hard to tell from the article alone how much the court will actually award. It also appears that several outlets, beyond The New York Times, have filed lawsuits one after another over the same issue.
