I was caught by the part saying Backrooms was made for about $10 million and earned close to $1 billion. However, the original itself notes that streaming viewership figures are rarely disclosed, so it seems hard to tell from this article alone how widely horror actually gets watched on Netflix or Amazon. There is a visible trend toward more experiments in a genre that is cheap to make and can earn big, but whether hits cover the flops should be looked at separately. If you have watched a few recent horror series, I am curious which one stayed with you longer.
